How to Download Facebook Videos, Reels, and Albums in 2026

By DropZap Editorial TeamLast reviewed

Facebook hosts a massive amount of video content — from regular video posts and Reels to live broadcast replays and multi-photo albums. The Facebook app itself only lets you save videos to a Facebook-internal "Saved Items" list, not to your phone's Camera Roll or PC's Downloads folder. To get the actual MP4 or photos onto your device, you need a third-party tool. This guide covers the full workflow with DropZap, including the Facebook-specific quirks (private groups, login walls, photo albums) that trip up most other downloaders.

Three Facebook content types and how DropZap handles each

  • Regular video posts. Standard videos uploaded to a Page, profile, or group. DropZap returns them as MP4 in HD when available.
  • Facebook Reels. Short vertical videos similar to Instagram Reels and TikTok. Treated the same as regular videos by DropZap — paste URL, get MP4.
  • Photo albums and carousels. Multi-photo posts saved as a single ZIP file with every image at original resolution. Particularly useful for event galleries and family-album posts.

Step-by-step: Facebook video download

  1. Open the Facebook video. Find the video in your feed, on a friend's profile, or on a Page. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right of the post → tap Copy link. URLs typically look like facebook.com/watch?v=..., fb.watch/..., or facebook.com/PageName/videos/123456. All work.
  2. Open DropZap. Go to dropzap.digital/facebook-video-downloader.
  3. Paste and Download. DropZap fetches the video, offers HD and SD options when both are available, and streams the MP4 to your device in 3-5 seconds.

Facebook Reel downloads

Reels use a slightly different URL format (facebook.com/reel/...) but the same downloader handles them. Paste the Reel URL into the same field. The output is an MP4 in vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, matching what was uploaded.

Facebook photo albums

Album URLs look like facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.123.... Paste this into the same DropZap field. DropZap parses the album manifest and returns a single ZIP file with every photo. Each photo is at the resolution Facebook stored it (typically 1080-1440px on the longer edge — Facebook downsamples uploaded photos for storage, so this is the maximum any tool can produce).

To extract the ZIP on iPhone: open Files app → tap the ZIP. iOS auto-extracts. To extract on Android: open Files by Google → tap the ZIP. To extract on Windows / Mac: double-click. See our carousel ZIP guide for full extraction details — the steps are the same.

The private-group problem (and why DropZap can't fix it)

If you try to download a video from a private Facebook group (a group requiring approved membership to view content), DropZap — like every other external tool — will return a "login required" error. This isn't a tool limitation; private-group content requires authenticated access through Facebook's API, which third-party tools can't legitimately have.

The only ways to save private-group videos:

  • Become a member of the group, then use Facebook's screen-record feature on iPhone (Control Center → Screen Record) or Android (Settings → Display → Screen Recorder). The captured video has lower quality and includes the Facebook UI, but it works.
  • If you're a group admin, use the post's three-dot menu → "Save video to your phone" (this option only appears for admins on some posts).

For public posts and Pages, no login is required and DropZap works normally.

Login walls on regular Facebook posts

Facebook occasionally shows a "Log in to continue" wall on otherwise-public posts, especially when accessed from a country outside the post's targeted region or via a server IP that Facebook flags. When this happens to DropZap's backend, the download fails with a 403 error. Two workarounds:

  • Try the post's mobile URL. Replace facebook.com with m.facebook.com in the URL. Mobile URLs sometimes don't trigger the login wall.
  • Use the Facebook Watch URL. If the video is also on Facebook Watch, find it there and use that URL — Watch URLs are typically more permissive.

If both fail, the post has been hard-walled and can't be downloaded by external tools.

iPhone workflow

  1. From the Facebook app, tap the three-dot menu → Copy link.
  2. Open Safari → dropzap.digital/facebook-video-downloader.
  3. Paste, tap Download, pick HD if offered.
  4. MP4 saves to Files app. Move to Camera Roll via Files → tap-and-hold → Share → Save Video.

Android workflow

On Android, the workflow is the same but Chrome's MediaScanner adds the file to Google Photos / Gallery automatically. No Files-app intermediate step.

What about Facebook Stories?

Facebook Stories from public profiles work in DropZap. Use the Story URL. Stories from private profiles can't be downloaded by any external tool for the same reason as private groups.

What about Facebook Live broadcasts?

Replays of public Live broadcasts work like regular videos — paste the URL, download as MP4. Currently-streaming Live broadcasts can't be downloaded mid-stream by any tool because there's no complete file to fetch yet. Wait until the broadcast ends and the replay is posted, then download it.

Common Facebook download errors and fixes

"Video not available." Either the post was deleted, the privacy was changed to friends-only, or the URL was copied incorrectly. Re-copy via the three-dot menu's Copy link rather than from a browser screenshot.

"Login required." The post is behind Facebook's login wall (private group, friends-only, or geo-locked). Not fixable by any external tool.

"This download requires an HD account." You're not seeing this on DropZap — that's a fake-button trick on some other downloaders. DropZap is fully free with no premium tier.

Is downloading Facebook videos legal?

For personal use (offline viewing, archiving your own posts, sending family videos to relatives) — yes, generally permitted. Reposting someone else's content as your own without credit, commercial use without permission, or bulk scraping may violate copyright or Facebook's Terms of Service. Always credit creators when resharing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download a Facebook video without logging in?

Copy the post's link via the three-dot menu → Copy link. Paste into dropzap.digital/facebook-video-downloader. Click Download and pick HD or SD. The MP4 saves in 3-5 seconds with no login.

Can I download videos from private Facebook groups?

No. Private-group content requires authenticated Facebook access, which external tools can't legitimately have. The only options are joining the group and using your phone's screen recorder, or being a group admin with save permissions.

How do I download a full Facebook photo album?

Open the album, copy the URL (typically facebook.com/media/set/?set=...). Paste into DropZap's Facebook field. DropZap returns a single ZIP file with every photo at original resolution.

Why does DropZap show a 'login required' error on some Facebook posts?

Facebook's login wall hides certain posts behind authentication, including private-group content, friends-only posts, and some geo-restricted videos. Try the m.facebook.com mobile URL or the Facebook Watch URL as workarounds.

Can I download Facebook Live broadcasts?

Replays of completed Live broadcasts work like regular videos. Currently-streaming broadcasts can't be downloaded mid-stream because the file isn't complete yet. Wait until the broadcast ends and the replay is posted.
